JAZZ

Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality, and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Level I (60 minutes) - M. Lane

Thursday 5:00pm 

Introduces dancers to the jazz genre and basic technical skills (i.e. jazz walk, chaine turns, single pirouettes, jetes and kicks). Builds dancers' style and confidence while working on musicality and the ability to pick up choreography and connect steps and skills together with fun, upbeat music. Recommended for ages 5 – 8.

Level II (60 minutes) - S. Williams
Tuesday 5:00pm
An introduction to the jazz genre, this class focuses on upbeat tempo choreography and developing technique. Dancers will utilize basic jazz technique while also developing the ability to pick up and memorize stylized movements. Recommended ages 9 - 11.

Level III (60 minutes) - A. Krienke
Wednesday 8:00pm
For dancers that have previous dance training. Builds on understanding more intricate choreography and fast-paced movement with a focus on developing style and strong technique. Students must master level II skills before progressing to this more advanced class and receive approval from the Artistic Director. 

Level IV/V (90 minutes) - C. Schouten

Thursday 7:00pm
Jazz IV/V will incorporate jazz technique from Levels I-III and continue to expand on this vocabulary.  Must complete full assessment and master all skills in Level III before advancing to Level IV. For a full evaluation list, please contact the Artistic Director.
